out for a stroll

marianne is one of desmond's best gal pals, and we recently celebrated her birthday with a trip to the denver museum of nature and science. neither of the kiddos wanted to get in the car right away, so jill (her mom) and i tagged along as they went for a short walk. marianne practiced playing hard-to-get, and desmond didn't take the hint. eventually he got his chance to tell her about the ceramic tiger that takes your money (with a scary snarl) at the museum's entrance...that old thing's been around since i was a kid! anyway, these two really couldn't get much cuter...see for yourself (password is "archer"):

Busy, Busy Desmond.

The holiday are busy times for us all and Desmond is no exception. While I am not too clear of his motivation or end goals, he clearly has some things he wants to accomplish in this video, and he does some good work to overcome obstacles that get in his way.

Squeaking in the Hay

des has become fixated with a number of books lately, and one of his favorites is the wonderful big red barn by margaret wise brown (she also wrote good night moon). in order to meet his demands, and because we've read it 8 zillion times, i can now narrate the entire book -- with sound effects -- by heart. he's become quite the storyteller himself, and will often repeat certain stanzas out of the blue (complete with gestures). here i was trying to get him to say, "and the moon sailed high..." but he was much more interested in talking about the mice that were "squeaking in the hay." can't say as i blame him.
